On June 7th, the Waterloo Rural Women's group hosted their Children's Farm Safety Day at Kyle and Jolene Horst's Hidden Lane Dairy Farm. The kids in attendance learned about the varieties of dangers present that can lead to farm accidents, how to proceed in the event of a fire, and road safety while walking or biking.

The Waterloo Regional Police Department, Floradale Volunteer Fire Department, Equipment Ontario and other organizations were present to educate the children and their families about the dangers faced on the farm and precautions to take to avoid accidents. "Farm children live where their family works," said Sharon Grose, a WRW board member. "Often times they don't see or are not aware of the many hazards of their daily surroundings."

"We want to try and make children aware of the dangers and hazards found on the farm. Often times children will pay more attention if someone other than their parents remind them of the dangers," she added.

Edge Mutual was proud to support this initiative. As a rural insurance company, supporting the next generation of agribusiness makes sense - and spreading the word about safe farming is an important element, especially when farmers are our neighbors, friends, and family.
